ALEXIS NOLENT (MATZ) – WRITER / SCREENWRITER

Alexis Nolent, better known by his pen name MATZ, is a French writer and screenwriter, and a leading figure in the world of graphic novels.

He is best known as the writer and co-creator of the graphic novel series THE KILLER (LE TUEUR), illustrated by Luc Jacamon and published internationally in around a dozen languages. The series, which currently spans 19 volumes, was adapted into the feature film THE KILLER, directed by David Fincher, starring Michael Fassbender in the lead role and produced by Netflix.

His graphic novel DU PLOMB DANS LA TÊTE was also adapted for the screen as BULLET TO THE HEAD, directed by Walter Hill and starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa and Christian Slater, making Matz the first French graphic novel writer to have his work adapted by Hollywood.

Over the course of his career, Matz has published 75 graphic novels, including, in addition to THE KILLER and DU PLOMB DANS LA TÊTE, the series TANGO, CYCLOPES, MEXICANA, OPK and SHANDY, as well as standalone works such as LE TRAVAILLEUR DE LA NUIT, LES PAPILLONS NE MEURENT PAS DE VIEILLESSE and CEUX DU CHAMBON.

Under his real name, Alexis Nolent, he published the novel LA NUIT DU VIGILE (Rivages/Noir) and has translated around fifteen American and British novels for Payot/Rivages and Gallmeister, including works by authors such as Donald Westlake, Jim Thompson, Jerry Stahl, Mike Hodges, Peter Benchley and Peter Swanson.

Beyond publishing, Alexis Nolent has extensive experience writing for film, television and video games. He co-created and co-wrote the French television series ANTIGONE 34 for France Télévisions, and has contributed to the writing of major international video game franchises including ASSASSIN’S CREED, SPLINTER CELL, FAR CRY, RAINBOW SIX, GHOST RECON and LES NEUF DESTINS DE VALDO.

With several of his works already adapted into major international feature films, Alexis Nolent combines a strong command of storytelling, extensive expertise in genre fiction, and considerable experience in creating characters and worlds with significant potential for film and television adaptation.
